GREEN WORLD YOUTH EMERGENCE RISING

On the bioregion known as Hawaii Island there are new patterns emerging on the land. For a place where tourism has become the the staple industry, this perishable economy knows it must find deeper ground. if one break in the fabric of this mail order society that is boat dependent for things and oil should occur, there is now for the first time a glimmer that maybe enough people have put shovel to ground to make it for a month or so. This global impermanence is still troubling but there are real signs that a fabric of a way more land based culture is emerging. This weekend various island groups met to celebrate the unity of the farmer based neo-tribal culture that is emerging. Music and dance are key factors here. This is an international mix of humans that seek to serve the original Hawaiian invitation to all to come and contribute to a balanced life with sacred attention to the land in particular.

Happily these more nomadic kin are not interested in giving up their rich and playful roots for the traditional workdriven farm cultures of the past. They want to graduate from the industrial age. They will stay the course with their land based approach to living and allow the farm to grow up around them. The important new under-pinnings of this lifestyle is that there are ways to see say ten ag-ohana farm famliies being supported by an ag hamlet or mother farm. Then nearby another ohana will man the botanical oasis they all play in. Remembering the Hawaiian traditions of Lono… they want the PEACE..PLENTY..and PLAY option. No more slaving for a society that can't get out of the work and war cycle. Hawaii as a motherload of nature waiting
for a progressive and patient kind of attention. It must be the promise of paradise this planet needs as a model of something way past the American big box dream of plastic reality and too many hours absorbed in the status woe media that service the understanding of our pathetically short minded political system.

So, why is this quiet revolution so invisible to us? It is simply that these folk are out in the country side and forests carrying on this overall interest in Life force living. Many Hawaiian and polynesian rooted families have never left this extended family nature based style. It is a Pacific tradition and far more appropriate than the California building codes that have distracted us from being in a partnership with nature … separating us in boxes. Grass to mow surrounding the executive retirement home of the last century is not an option in the future. We will come to find that this style of living with nature is going to be the high tech of tomorrow.

New forms of rural entertainment are surfacing like the introduction of a botanical oasis which is the new version of a country club. Not with an expensive food service, mowed golf courses, and fancy affairs. Rather a series of bands and singers round the fire, with small lit enclaves in the woods for chatting and the occasional sanctuary where cuddle puddles can occur. These were called puppy piles in the late seventies. Fundamentally its like the way animals gather for warmth or to block the weather but what occurs inside is the most precious kind of love energy.
Drunkeness or sexually aggressive behavior is not well thought of. This is NOT RAVE energy pumped by drugs and excess. The trend is distinctly more gentle among the newest nature based tribes. The LOVE BUZZ vibe or bubble or field energy is a goal for such events and very welcoming for new players.

As a social architect I would say the gentle neo-tribal wave of young people in their early thirties is a gift to the next world and one worth cultivating. Make space and support for this culture …they may save our children from a dying industrial age hangover.
